VIA FERRATA - THE GIVENCHY OLFACTORY WORKSHOP
From October 25 to 30, 2021.
As part of the partnership between Givenchy and the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris, 23 students from the Via Ferrata program were invited to take part in a unique experience: developing an artistic work starting from a scent.
For one week, the students were immersed in the world of perfume. During this time, they were asked to imagine and create a work inspired by L’Interdit Eau de Parfum. This iconic fragrance from the House of Givenchy is characterized by white floral notes—orange blossom, jasmine, and tuberose—intertwined with darker, rawer tones of vetiver and patchouli. L’Interdit Eau de Parfum invites one to cross personal limits, move beyond conventions, and embrace individuality with elegance. A rich source of inspiration for the students.
To guide them in their creative process, the students were able to engage with experts in olfactory creation. They participated in an olfactory workshop organized by the Givenchy teams and had the opportunity to exchange with Fanny Bal, the perfumer who contributed to the creation of L’Interdit Eau de Parfum.
In parallel, the students discovered or rediscovered artworks and artists who use scent as a medium for artistic creation and reflection. Throughout the week, they were accompanied by visual artist Antoine Renard, who is conducting doctoral research on olfaction and creates olfactory sculptures—some of which have been exhibited at the Palais de Tokyo. Antoine Renard supported the students in their reflections and helped them transform their ideas into concrete projects.
